UNCLE VANYA

In the heat of the summer of 1895, Sonya and her Uncle Vanya work away their days on a crumbling estate deep in the Russian countryside, visited occasionally only by the local doctor Astrov. However, when Sonya’s father, the retired Professor Serebryakov suddenly returns from the city with his alluring new wife Yelena, tensions over inheritance, love affairs and unraveling friendships mount. The polite facades crumble and long repressed feelings start to emerge.

“This is a splendid Vanya, an ideal evening for a first-timer (or a twenty-first timer) to worship at the feet of the Russian master.”
